Members of Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money Cash Money Brothers (YMCMB) collective talked turkey this past week-end, and for once, it wasn’t jive.
Known primarily for lyrics that amplify the materialistic climate pervasive in Hip-Hop culture, the “I’m On One” rapper, joined by “father” and self-made millionaire, Bryan “Baby” Williams, Ronald “Slim” Williams and supporting Cash Money cast, Mack Maine and Lil’ Chuckie, handed out turkeys for the sixteenth year to impoverished neighborhoods in New Orleans.
Wayne, who says that he’s been too busy to return home in almost a decade to spread the love, confessed to a sense of new-found fulfillment in giving back to his fellow man:
“It’s actually been my first time back here for the past eight or nine years, and they’ve been doing this for 15 years,” Lil Wayne said to MTV News. “I haven’t been back here to do this for so long just being super busy, just always on tour.”
“Those times I did it years ago, I was just a kid and I was just doing it because Baby and Slim, we were giving away turkeys at a park and that’s what we were doin’,” Weezy continued. “Now it’s a totally different feeling, because I can actually give you that and say, ‘Here, happy Thanksgiving.’ I can do that, and I can provide that for you. That’s a different feeling in general, and it’s a beautiful feeling overall.”
