Critics Give Mixed Reviews of Lil Wayne’s New Album

Just minutes after his performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, Lil Wayne released his latest album, "Tha Carter IV." The album is part of a long-standing franchise that has served the artist well, leading to sales in the millions. Like him, love him or hate him, Lil Wayne is considered to be the hottest hip hop artist in the world.
But his latest album hasn't won the hearts of critics. Some seem to love it, as Steve Jones from USA Today says:
"Lil Wayne made fans wait 10 months after his release from prison for Tha Carter IV (* * * ½out of four), his much anticipated follow-up to 2008's triple-platinum Tha CarterIII. But now that it's finally here, Weezy has packed the lineup with more than enough repeat-worthy tunes to make it worth the delays."
There are others who feel that Lil Wayne has lost a wee bit of swag and creativity, such as Julian Benbow at the Boston Globe, who says that the CD is "bland" and "forgettable":
"...when you listen to “Tha Carter IV,’’ his eagerly awaited new album released today, it’s evident he’s not the same person, let alone the same rapper.
“Tha Carter III’’ and the endless stream of mixtapes that helped Wayne bend the corner from rap star to rock star were great because they were unpredictable, reckless, and urgent. He’s neutered now, though. He’s running a sober tour - no drugs, no alcohol. Before he went in, he quit drinking codeine syrup, which was like Popeye cutting back on the spinach.
“C3’’ was great because despite the unbeatable hype that went into it, Wayne managed to live up to it. Its follow-up doesn’t deserve the brand name. It’s not good or bad; it’s bland and aimless, which is worse.
With “Tha Carter IV,’’ there are only traces of the playful wit that made Wayne so interesting to begin with. On “Nightmares of the Bottom,’’ he raps, “If I would have known I was going to jail/ I would have [slept with] my attorney.’’ Beyond that, though, he has reduced himself to puns, thinking it’s clever when it’s not."
Actress Meagan Good Talks about Life as a Party Animal

In a new interview with Rolling Out Magazine, Actress Meagan Good discusses her party animal ways, turning 30 and how she is trying to seek balance in her life. In the interview, she had this to say:
"I think the main thing is that I'm definitely a party animal. I love to go out, and have a great time. And I don't feel like there's anything wrong with that whatsoever, I just have to make sure that I practice healthy habits when I do go out. I do like to drink, but for me it's about making sure I stay in the pocket of what's appropriate."
Good was recently involved in an incident in which she was accused of drinking and driving, leading some to wonder if her life was under control. She claims that she wasn’t drunk, but did discuss having a lifestyle that is less healthy than both she and perhaps Michelle Obama would like:
"That's an area I've been working on and doing much better in … I've also focused on quitting smoking, working out more, and just living a healthier lifestyle. Outside of that, I'm pretty happy about everything else. I just want to improve my position and make better opportunities for girls coming behind me, and make sure that I stay in the pocket of what I need to be doing, so I can help young girls in juvenile jails and foster homes."

Justin Bieber and Will and Jada’s Son are Denying that the Couple is Having Problems
You’ve probably seen the reports stating that Will and Jada are having trouble in their marriage. Apparently, they have friends and fans who are supporting them to the end, including superstar Justin Bieber. On his Twitter page, Bieber said this:
"Will and Jada are one of the best couples ever. #FACT #real"
Also, their son Jaden has been tweeting with the hashtag: #ItsAllLies.
The couple was spotted out shopping and seemed as happy as ever. They also released a statement claiming that there is nothing to worry about.
Motown’s Esther Gordy Dies at the Age of 91
Esther Gordy Edwards, who helped lead Motown Records to international success and later nurtured the label's hometown legacy, died overnight at home in Detroit. She was 91.
Edwards was a key adviser and executive to her younger brother Berry Gordy Jr. as the label made its name in the 1960s. Two decades later, she secured historical status for the company's former West Grand Boulevard headquarters and founded the Motown Historical Museum on the site.
"She was the most educated in our family and was the go-to person for wisdom in business," Gordy said in a statement this morning.
"Whatever she did, it was with the highest standards, professionalism and an attention to detail that was legendary. She always came out a hero. Esther wasn’t concerned with being popular. She was dedicated to making us all better—the Gordy family and the Motown family."
Report: Will Smith Walked in on Jada and Marc Anthony, Left Crying
In Touch Weekly is claiming that actor Will Smith had a confrontation in early August in which he suspected that his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, was having an affair with her HawthoRNe co-star, Marc Anthony. In the midst of his suspicions, Smith secretly flew home from a movie shoot.
The magazine also claims that Smith walked into the house and found Marc Anthony and Jada together. He then left the house crying shortly thereafter.
It was initially being reported that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were getting divorced. But the couple later came out with a denial. Soon afterward, however, it was revealed that the couple is having serious marital problems, but just haven't filed the paperwork yet.
Will and Jada's reps have claimed that the couple is doing just fine. They also deny that Jada has been unfaithful to Will, specifically mentioning Marc Anthony in the denial.
It is being reported that Jada and Will have lived separate lives for months.

Does Lil Wayne’s Message to Women Come Up “Too Short”?

Charlie Penn of Essence.com asked readers if Lil Wayne’s message to women digs deep enough in the video for his hit single “How to Love”, which was released today. My answer to Penn’s question before watching the video: Absolutely not. My answer to Penn’s question after viewing the video: Absolutely not, but good try.
How could I dismiss Wayne’s message before watching the video? Let me explain. Directed by Chris Robinson, “How to Love” tells the story of a young woman who, after a childhood plagued with domestic violence and emotional abuse, becomes involved in stripping and prostitution, and later tests positive for HIV. Although I think Wayne and Robinson’s attempt to address the consequences of abuse and exploitation is laudable, it does not mean much in the grand scheme of things. Wayne releases a new single approximately once every five minutes; therefore, it will take more than one music video to counterbalance the effects of his extensive catalogue of venomous lyrics in which women are often victimized or objectified, such as those in Wayne’s “Dick Pleaser”:

The mother-of-three began having sex with the teen when he was 13 years old and their affair continued until he was 17 years as she attempted to mold him into her ‘toyboy’ lover.
At the same time as she was sleeping with the teenager, her 18 year old daughter was also having sex with the boy.
Rachel Brock will go on trial later this year but is likely to get a lesser sentence on her under age sex charges.
The mother-daughter sex triangle was revealed as Brock, 49, was jailed after pleading guilty to three counts of attempted sexual conduct.
Brock wept in court as she apologized for her behaviour which is said to have left her victim, now aged 17, suffering from ‘inescapable depression’.
Is this Video Funny, Ghetto or Political? Welfare Gets Glamourized
The video "It's Free Swipe Yo EBT" has drawn fire for being racist and stereotypical when it comes to African Americans and the welfare system. In the video, a single mother with multiple children uses a profanity-laced set of lyrics to show just how easy it is to get welfare if you just keep having more kids. It's hard to figure out if the company releasing the video is trying to make a positive point, making a joke or just being offensive.
The video appears, to some, to be the kind of thing that might be released by the Republican Party. It even features public service announcements, telling the viewer that "This is where your tax money goes."

Lil Wayne Rushed to the Hospital After Skateboarding Accident
The rapper Lil Wayne was rushed to the hospital after a serious skateboarding accident. The rapper was in St. Louis for a promotional event and decided to try out skateboarding himself. It turns out that he’s not very good at the sport, since he crashed and hit his face.
Lil Wayne was performing at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, and was taken to the hospital by members of his entourage after the incident took place.
It appears that Wayne is alright, as he communicated to his fans on Twitter:
