Administrators, faculty, staff, and students at Freedom High School, which is located in a Tampa, Florida school district are lucky to be alive after the terroristic plan of 17-year old Jared Cano was thwarted. Cano effectuated a deadly plan to bomb his high school on the first day of classes. Authorities report that if the plan had gone through, the damage would have been “catastrophic.”
Along with written schematics of rooms in the school, authorities found evidence that indicated Cano was planning an attack that included fuel, shrapnel, plastic tubing, and a timing device. Cano planned to kill two students, and two principals. Tampa Police Chief, Jane Castor said: “We were probably able to thwart potentially a catastrophic event the likes of which Tampa has not seen.” Cano has since been expelled from Freedom High School, and is in police custody.
