JAY-Z TALKS ABOUT RHIANNA EXPERIENCE

Here you go again, smelling good," Winfrey joked as Jay-Z walked on the set. The line was in reference to her call with Gayle King where she remarked after meeting the rapper she discovered how good he smelled.

"That's swagger," an audience member chimed in, drawing Jay's laughter.

The pair appeared at ease with each other as the talk-show queen asked the rapper about his drug-dealing past, his marriage to Beyoncé and his relationship with his father, whom Jay-Z had been estranged from before reuniting with him before his death.

They agreed to disagree over issues with the N-word. Jay-Z said people give words power, and as a culture, we can take that away. Winfrey steadfastly disagreed, saying for her generation, the word is loaded with degradation.

OPRAH LIKES JAY-Z

In case you didn't get to see Oprah with Jay-Z yesterday, they have all kinds of clips up on her site from his visit.

     It was a very playful, very gracious Oprah in the presence of Hip Hop's royalty. She gave him a chance to explain himself even though they "agreed to disagree forever" on the issue of the "N" word being used in rap lyrics.

Oprah’s Film “Precious” Wins Big at Toronto Film Festival

"Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" won the top award at the Toronto International Film Festival Saturday, giving the Oprah Winfrey-produced film some early momentum heading into Oscar awards season.

The film, a gritty tale of the abuse and redemption of a teenage girl in Harlem, captured the festival's People's Choice award, which is voted on by filmgoers. Last year it went to best picture Oscar winner "Slumdog Millionaire."

Critics have roundly praised "Precious" since its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and audiences in Toronto warmly received the film, which is directed by Lee Daniels and will hit theaters in November.

"I made this film for every person out there who ever looked in the mirror and felt unsure about the person looking back," Daniels, who is traveling in Spain, said in a statement read out at an awards reception in Toronto.

In addition to "Slumdog Millionaire," past winners of the award that have gone on to win the best picture Oscar include "American Beauty" and "Chariots of Fire."

The festival, which wraps up later Saturday with a red-carpet screening of "The Young Victoria," a look at the British queen's early years, was notable this year for a lack of distribution deals signed as the independent film industry remains mired in a near two-year funk.

OPRAH AND TYLER WORKING TOGETHER

WHAT…BOBBY SPIT ON WHITNEY HOUSTON

"At home, he was very much the father, he was very much the man," Houston said. "He was very much in control. I liked that. When he said something, I listened. I was very interested in having someone have that kind of control over me. It was refreshing."

Houston said Brown grew increasingly uncomfortable with his background role as her fame continued to soar. She described one episode after a birthday party for Brown that left her "horrified. He spit on me, in my face." She said their daughter, Bobbi Kristina, witnessed the incident, which left Houston "very hurt, very angry."

OPRAH AND JAY-Z CHOPPING IT UP

 

Oprah visited with Jay-Z earlier in the summer in the Marcy housing project in Brooklyn, and now their chat is out in the new October issue of O magazine, on newsstands Sept. 15. (Click photos to enlarge.) Some highlights: 

On dealing drugs at 13:
Jay-Z: "It was natural..."
Winfrey: "Because drug dealers were your role models. There wasn’t a teacher or lawyer or nurse of doctor or and accountant in the neighborhood?"
Jay-Z: "Well, we were living in Marcy by then, so no. And if anyone did become something like that, they moved out. They never came back to share the wisdom of how they made it. If anyone made it, you never knew it. That’s why I’ve always said that if I become successful, I’d come back here, grab somebody, and show him how it can be done."
On the use of the N word:
Winfrey: "Do you believe that using the N word is necessary?"
Jay-Z: "Nothing is necessary. It’s just become part of the way we communicate. My generation hasn’t had the same experience with that word that generations of people before us had. We weren’t so close to the pain. So in our way, we disarmed the word. We took the fire pin out of the grenade."

On marrying Beyonce:
Winfrey: "Can I ask how in the world you kept your wedding a secret?"
Jay-Z: "Late planning!"
Winfrey: "How many people knew?"
Jay-Z: "Very few. The sad part is that we offended some. But people who love you understand. Because at the end of the day, it’s your day."

Jay Z and Oprah Kick It in the Projects

Yup that’s right Jay-Z and Oprah were spotted in Marcy Projects where Jay grew up yesterday.  The two were on their way to Jays grandmother’s house, which will be featured on an upcoming episode of her show.  I usually don’t watch Oprah but I may be tuning in for this episode.

Déjà vu

Another sex scandal has hit The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy in South Africa. This time seven students were suspended for forcing their classmates to partake in lesbian acts and they were also bullying others. Now that's some crazy stuff, I guess Oprah can't help everyone.

New Push Movie Clip....

I went to support Tyler Perry's film over the weekend and I saw the trailer for the new movie PUSH: BASED ON THE NOVEL BY SAPPHIRE which is a story based on the 96 book by author Saphhire which describes the hardships in the life of a teen called Claireece Precious Jones who was abused by her mother, raped by her father, and changes her life around after entering an Alternative School program. The movie made its debut at the Sundance film festival and stars Monique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey and a host of others! The trailer isn't out on the web yet but I was able to find this clip so enjoy!

Is Oprah A Druggie?

Who would of ever thought that the most successful black woman in America smoked rocks, but then again she was a wild child. Oprah's ex-boyfriend Randolph Cook claims that him and Oprah smoked at least a couple times a week back in 1985. Read what Cook had to say below:

“Oprah made a 'rock' of cocaine and baking soda in the tube and heated it, a method known as freebasing. [Oprah] then put the lit torch on the rock, inhaled and held the smoke in her lungs for a long time. When she finally exhaled, she began to shake violently as she put the pipe down, she had trouble catching her breath and her eyes got big as saucers. We smoked at least a couple of times a week. Sometimes we would smoke up until her limo was waiting to take her to the studio to perform her show…”
