The attorney for Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State University coach who is accused of molesting young boys, reportedly fathered a child with a teenage girl. The 63-year old helped the 16-year old get emancipated from her parents, where she had a child with him right before she turned 18.
Joe Amendola, according to documents filed in the Centre County (PA) courthouse, worked to help Mary Iavasile with her emancipation petition in September of 1996, a few weeks before her 17th birthday.
Janet Iavasile, the girl’s mother, alleges that the attorney got her pregnant just a few months later, with her giving birth before her 18th birthday. He was 49 years old at the time.
“At the time, I didn’t know the extent of the relationship,” Janet Iavasile told The Daily. Like the parents of Sandusky’s victims, she thought that the man was serving as a “mentor” to her daughter.
The couple got married in 2003 and separated later.
