Tuesday Morning, Richard T Jones stopped by Kentucky State University. Of Course Madam Prezident wasn’t going to allow a Tyler Perry Pick come through Kentucky without saying, “Wazzzup”.
Meeting celebrities isn’t always fun. However Mr. Jones was a true delight. His charisma and realness superseded his roles in The Wood, Why did I get married, and why did I get Married Too.
When I introduced myself to Richard T. Jones, I looked him in the eyes, I shook his hand firm, and I said, “I’m Shanelle Walker, I’m a senior here at the University, and I’m a poet”. He said, “Oh so you a poet huh, and I said, “Yes I am”. He said, “How do I know you are a poet”? Then I said, “Let me show you”. I instantaneously began to recite my “Opportunity” poem, which encourages the youth to vote for Barack Obama. By the time I was finish there was a circle of students around me, local and school newspaper photographers. Nevertheless, I know when I was done, he KNEW I was poet.
I was thinking this morning, how many of us don’t believe in us. When someone asks us who we are, “we don’t know what to say”. We give our first and last name, our credentials, but we don’t say who we are, or what we’re about.
On the following morning, after Richard T Jones had left, The State Journal released there article on him, and guess who was on the FRONT COVER..Madam Prezident! When I saw myself on the front cover on the paper, I was in shock. I had no idea they would choose my acquaintance as the picture to display the Headliner.
Many of the people saw me on the FRONT PAGE of the paper. But, I saw “God’s Vindication”. A year ago, I was in the paper for being removed as SGA president, I was called a liar, and a cheat. I was in the paper for something embarrassing. I asked the paper for a retraction, and they didn’t give it to me. BUT GOD, will have them to give it to me a year later, without knowing!
Sometime we go through some tough things, but we serve an awesome, all knowing GOD! Your vision is never bigger than the VISION GOD HAS FOR YOU! I remember being in so much agony about my little embarrassment a year ago, I had grown people attacking me, 30 and 40 years of age, students and Alumni, but I moved on. I kept my head high when it should have been hanging low. Nonetheless, seeing myself on the front page of the paper yesterday, all I could remember is my mother saying, “Don’t worry about a thing, GOD WILL VINDICATE YOU”!
If you are in a situation, and you cannot prove yourself, whether it’s work, school, Greek Life, love life, anything. Move on and Keep living, “God Will Vindicate You”. No matter who gives up on you, “YOU DON’T GIVE UP ON YOU”!
Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.- Romans 12:9
Meaningful Blessings,
Madam Prezident
